No doubt you’re aware that light has the power to affect us in more ways than we realize. Subconsciously, it governs our sleep cycles and impacts our concentration, productivity and affects our general mood. Did you know that our nervous system reacts to different colors, meaning you can use clever lighting options in the home to create just the right ambiance that is why I created a post about creative bathroom lighting
When it comes to designing the perfect bathroom, you want the result to be a haven of relaxation, somewhere you can unwind from the stresses of the day and re-energize ready for the next day. Colored mood lighting in the bathroom can do all this for you and more.
Not sure how? Why not take your cue from the many luxury spas that are now big business all over the world. They know a thing or three about using colored lighting to exquisite effect in an effort to create an ambiance that soothes the senses and indulges both body and mind, adding clever little touches of drama and interest here and there.
Back at home in your own bathrooms, you can achieve the same effect with the use of bathroom mood and LED lighting in an array of colors. First, though, you need to understand how different colors affect the way we feel. Let’s take a closer look at individual options for colored bathroom mood lighting to see what might work best.
Colour: Red and Pink
The color red is a stimulating, energizing and dynamic color, known to raise your heart rate and stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. Red can cause strong emotions and feelings of excitement. It’s the color of love and passion – a hot, fierce and sexy color. Pink is a softer version and one that can create a truly indulgent romantic ambiance.
Colour: Orange and Yellow
Yellow is said to promote confidence and positivity – it’s a sunny color that should bathe you in warmth and happiness. Choose a warm, mellow hue rather than a harsh, cold yellow or the relaxing effect won’t be there. Another energizing color, orange is associated with promoting enthusiasm and creativity. This warm, happy color is very creative bathroom lighting and is reminiscent of late summer and the warmth of the early autumn sun.
Green is the undisputed color of Mother Nature and a more calming and harmonious color it is hard to find. Greenlight acts to calm the nervous system and helps to relieve stress, promoting a sense of balance. Add elements of soft green lighting to your bathroom design and feel your hassles ebb away.
Blue is the color of the endless sky and fathomless ocean. Choose the right shade and blue is the ultimate answer to destressing – it has a calming, soothing effect on both body and mind. Well known for evoking feelings of peace and serenity, blue is one of the most popular mood lighting options for the bathroom.
Purple is traditionally associated with spirituality and wisdom, and also with wealth and luxury. It’s the color of the Pope, of royalty and of magic. Use elements of purple mood lighting to add a touch of opulence to your home spa experience. Purple is also known to reduce emotional and mental stress – perfect for winding down in the tub in the privacy of your home.
Natural Daylight Creative Bathroom Lighting
Finally, let’s not forget the importance of natural light on your wellbeing. Bright, natural daylight has a calming effect on our moods, while lack of light or bad/insufficient artificial lighting can make you feel sad, and even trigger depression. Put bluntly, dark and dingy environments will see your ‘feelgood’ serotonin levels plummeting, making you unhappy.
Whatever mood lighting scheme you are thinking of incorporating into your bathroom design, making the most of all the sources of natural lighting should be your first port of call. Maximize the light coming into your bathroom by freeing up windows so that the sun can stream in. Declutter window sills and get rid of heavy curtains or blinds that might obscure the light. Where possible, reduce the opacity of the window panes to let in greater levels of light. Additional skylights could also be an option.
No doubt you’re aware that light has the power to affect us in more ways than we realize. Subconsciously, it governs our sleep cycles and impacts our concentration, productivity and affects our general mood.
