Every now and then people like to get something new for their homes like decorations to hang on the wall; but, some people like to create it themselves. So, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make your own canvas print with words.
Leave those times behind when you’d spend hours in stores looking for something you like, and make that something yourself. And with this guide you can do exactly that; create something that no one else has in their home.
Why would you buy if you can make your own canvas print with words just the way you want it to be?
So let’s get right on it!
Things You Will Need
If you want to learn how to make your own canvas print with words then you will need these things. Most of these things that are listed below are from Amazon. But you don’t have to buy it from there too; you can shop elsewhere.
Your local home depot will be good enough or any other general store that sells many things to everything.
The most important thing you will need is canvas. You can buy one or more and its size is up to you. Just choose how big you want it to be and go get one!
You can get it on Amazon for very reasonable prices.
Tip: I would suggest buying more than one since maybe something will go wrong while you learn how to make your own canvas print with words and you can’t really undo it like in Photoshop. Moreover, I’m pretty sure that after creating the first one, you would want to create more and more of them.
We are making a canvas print with words so we will need sticker letters. “Why sticker letters?”, you could ask. Because it will be easier to paint on letters that do not move.
Choose your font type and size. Amazon is full of different kind of fonts and different sized letters.
You can choose any kind of line pattern you want. I chose this one.

For this post, I chose golden spray paint. Personally, I like the Gold color better than any other.
I mean, who doesn’t like gold, right?
For this canvas print, we will make, we’ll need golden glitter. Just one container is enough.
Oh. I got this on Amazon too.
Another important thing that you’ll need is a sealant which can protect your canvas from fading out over time due to spilling some water on it or so.
It’s really not that important what kind of glue you use, as long as it is PVA.
And the last thing you’ll need is a paintbrush.
So here is a summary of what you’ll need:
- Sticker Letters
- Line Pattern
- Golden spray paint
- Golden Glitter
- Krylon Crystal Clear Sealant
- PVA Glue and Paintbrush
Once you’ve bought everything you need, you can start making your canvas print. But, before that, be sure of the text you want on your canvas since you won’t be able to change it.
Certainly not after spray painting.
Be wary that this is quite a messy job; so, you’d want to be in a room that’s easy to clean.
I would suggest that you do it outside or in your garage.
Step 1: Stick your letters on canvas
Start with the last letter of the word and work backward. Draw a reference line to align your letters in a line. Or if you want to mix things up and have some arching or shuffled text, that’s also great!
Step 2: Spray Paint It
I would suggest that you bring it outdoors as the paint’s aerosols are toxic to inhale over an extended period of time. Also, you might ruin your furniture by spraying paint indoors.
Paint it until you can’t see any white space under the golden color.
Step 3: Strip Off The Letters
Wait until the paint has dried completely. When the paint is still wet, it will look very bright yellow which is totally fine. Wait when until it is not bright yellow anymore.
Then take those letters off. Of course, without ruining all the hard work you’ve done so far.
Step 4: Draw Patterns And Apply Glue On Them
Draw the line pattern on the canvas and draw it carefully. It must be straight. If you draw awry then you won’t be able to delete the mistake.
Then apply glue inside the drawn lines and spread it smoothly within the drawn lines. Be patient and careful, making sure the glue stays inside the lines.
Step 5: Sprinkle Glitter Over the Glue
Like I said before, you can make something different; but, if you have bought glitter then you have to sprinkle it all over the glued areas.
Lift it up and give it a little shake to dust off the excess glitter.
Use a soft-bristle brush and steadily remove the remainder of the glitter.
Step 6: Spray Sealant Over It
Spray it evenly. Make sure you spray all over the canvas. This is important because, if you leave patches without sealant, they will wear out sooner than other parts and will be visibly uglish.
And that is all!
You have done it; you have made your own canvas print with words and you now know how to make your own canvas print with words.
TIP: Don’t forget to clean up after yourself. Your mom won’t do it for you, you know?
